a. Gasoline engine/Diesel engine
Larger or more powerful lawn mowers will use diesel or gasoline fuel engines similar to those used in small cars to provide a long period of high-power cutter speed, meeting the needs of large-scale lawn mowing work.

This type of lawn mower has a relatively high noise level, a bulky body, and emits harmful gases during operation.

The operation methods include riding type and hand pushing type.

Riding type
This type of lawnmower is like a small tractor. The operator sits inside the lawnmower and controls its movement path through the steering wheel. With the high noise of the engine, it removes weeds over a large area.

According to the type and position of the engine or steering wheel, they can be classified into front-mounted lawn mowers, rear-mounted lawn mowers and zero-rpm lawn mowers.

The difference between front-mounted and rear-mounted engines lies in whether the engine is located in front of or behind the seat.

The zero-turn lawnmower differs from the other two in the design of a pull rod located at the knee on the front side of its seat. This pull rod can control the dual hydrostatic transmission of the rear wheel, enabling the lawnmower to have more flexible maneuverability, such as forward movement and sharp turns, and to be closer to the edge area than the other two models.


Hand-pushed type
The engine, cutter and other components of this type of lawn mower are integrated into one, and then connected to the push rod and handle.

After starting the fuel engine, the operator pushes the lawnmower to the area where weeding is needed. Some designs enable the lawnmower to move forward automatically without the need for manual push.

The roar of the engine and the exhaust gas it emits will directly face the operator. Although it has strong power, it is gradually being replaced by electric lawn mowers for household use.

b. Electric lawn mower
Lawn mowers powered by electricity are the mainstream trend of household lawn mowers nowadays.

When in operation, it is quieter than fuel-powered machines, does not emit harmful exhaust gases, and its weight and volume are relatively reduced. Some electric lawn mowers are also designed as self-propelled, meaning the lawn mower can move forward by itself without the need for manual push.

However, in terms of power, it may not be as strong as that of a fuel engine. On the other hand, it is limited by the length of the power cord or the capacity of the battery, which leads to certain limitations in a single operation.

Electricity-powered lawn mowers can mainly be classified into two types: wired and wireless.

Wired lawn mower
After the external power cord of the engine is connected to the power socket in the courtyard, the operator can push the lawnmower to any place within the reach of the power cord. There is also an extension cord that can provide a larger operating area.

It should be noted that the electrical safety during use is important. Especially if an extension cord is used, be cautious of potential leakage at the interface. In addition, after each operation, the power cord needs to be straightened to avoid the trouble of wire entanglement when used again.

Wireless lawn mower
Using high-capacity rechargeable batteries as the power source, the lawn mower is no longer constrained by power lines, making its working range more flexible and independent. At the same time, the noise level is further reduced.

When in use, in addition to maintaining the sharpness of the lawn mower's blades, it is also necessary to pay attention to the battery life to achieve a longer and more convenient use.

c. Hand-pushed lawn mower
This is the simplest design of a lawnmower. It is pushed forward by hand and the blades rotate. It is not restricted by any energy source, is lightweight, easy to operate, and convenient for storage without taking up much space.

However, the relative power will definitely be much lower, making it more suitable for daily small-scale maintenance or short-term lawn maintenance after being trimmed by a high-power lawn mower.
